This infrared dome lens is a 25.4mm hemispherical protection window engineered for 8-12um LWIR security cameras, where the dome must pass thermal radiation while shielding the camera from weather, impact, and contamination. The dome is formed from germanium and coated on both surfaces with a broadband LWIR anti-reflective layer, keeping transmission above 94 percent across the thermal band. Why does a security camera need an infrared dome instead of a plastic one?
Plastic domes absorb most of the 8-12um thermal radiation, so a thermal camera behind a plastic dome sees almost nothing. An infrared dome lens made of germanium or chalcogenide transmits the thermal band, allowing the camera to deliver full night vision performance while still being protected from the environment.
What is the difference between germanium and chalcogenide domes?
Germanium offers the highest LWIR transmission and is the traditional choice, while chalcogenide glass provides a lower cost option with good transmission and better resistance to thermal runaway. We recommend germanium for premium cameras and chalcogenide for cost-sensitive volume products.
Can you provide domes with a rain-shedding coating?

How is dome thickness optimized for pressure and transmission?
