Rotary drum dryer for wood chips
1.Product Introduction
A Rotary Drum Dryer for wood chips is a high-capacity, heavy-duty drying system designed to reduce the moisture content of raw wood chips and shavings. Fresh wood chips typically have a high moisture content (40%–60%), which prevents efficient processing and burning. This dryer uses high-velocity hot air to quickly lower moisture levels to 10%–15%, optimizing the wood chips for fuel or industrial manufacturing.
2.Application
Wood Pellet & Briquette Production: Essential pre-treatment drying of wood chips before they are ground and compressed into premium biomass pellets.
Particleboard & MDF Manufacturing: Preparing uniform, dry wood fibers for the production of medium-density fiberboards (MDF), particleboards, and OSB.
Biomass Power Plants: Drying wood chips used as a direct fuel source to boost combustion efficiency and reduce boiler emissions.
Gasification: Providing dry, high-quality wood feedstock for biomass gasifiers to maximize synthetic gas yield.
3.Working Principle
The dryer operates on a continuous, tightly sealed heat exchange mechanism:
Feeding: Wet coal is continuously fed into the slightly inclined, rotating cylindrical drum.
Cascading & Drying: Internal lifting flights and chains lift the coal and shower it through the hot air stream. This constant movement breaks up clumps and creates a uniform curtain of coal, allowing rapid heat transfer and moisture evaporation.
Discharge & Safety Control: The dried coal slides to the lower discharge end. An induced draft fan pulls the moist air out through a cyclone and baghouse filter to capture fine coal dust. Safety systems, such as inert gas injection or explosion relief valves, are often integrated to manage combustible coal dust safely.
