As a well-known solutions provider to the agricultural equipment industry, a customer approached ORK to re-engineer a cab seal with an under-performing design that was allowing the infiltration of dust into the operator compartment. After a thorough analysis of the part geometry and performance requirements, we made design modifications that successfully solved the issue.
To manufacture the cab seal, we used a co-extrusion process that incorporated a segmented steel wire carrier into the profile for added grip strength around the wide radius corners. We chose vulcanized rubber as the material of construction to ensure the seal would not deform or become brittle when exposed to temperature extremes. Featuring dimensions of 29.4 mm in height and 22.1 mm in depth, we maintained tight ± 0.7 mm tolerances throughout the entire 10,000' production run. The pebbled texture finish provided a no-slip grip to facilitate installation.
