Water-Expanding Thread Description
Water-expanding thread is a type of sewing thread that slightly expands when exposed to water. This natural expansion fills the needle holes made during sewing, making it harder for water to seep through the stitching, thus providing a certain level of waterproofing.
This thread is widely used in outdoor products, including tents, umbrellas, raincoats, canvas, and other items exposed to rain. It is also commonly used in waterproof shoes, wetsuits, agricultural irrigation water hoses, and other waterproof products. Due to its effectiveness, it is a popular choice in the market for waterproof sewing materials.
However, this thread is not 100% effective at sealing needle holes. Under high external pressure, the thread’s expansion alone may not withstand significant water pressure. Therefore, it is less suitable for applications requiring high-pressure waterproofing.
For better waterproof performance, it is recommended to use double-needle and double-thread sewing techniques during stitching. This ensures improved sealing and reduces the risk of water penetration.
