Working Principle:
It is a fuel cell - type sensor that operates based on the electrochemical principle. Carbon monoxide and oxygen undergo corresponding redox reactions on the working electrode and the counter electrode inside the electrolytic cell, which releases electric charges to form an electric current. The magnitude of the generated current is proportional to the concentration of carbon monoxide and complies with Faraday's Law. Thus, the concentration of carbon monoxide can be determined by measuring the current value.
Applications:
The sensor is widely applicable in commercial and especially civilian fields for carbon monoxide concentration detection. It is a core component of various carbon monoxide detectors and CO alarms. These devices are commonly installed in homes, small - scale commercial places like small restaurants, and other indoor environments where coal - burning, gas - burning appliances or heating equipment are used, to promptly alert people to potential CO poisoning risks.
