In paper cup manufacturing, a "paper cup fan" is a specialized pneumatic device. Its primary function is to precisely handle and prepare the paper cup bottoms (the circular discs that form the base of the cup) just before they are sealed to the cup walls.
Its main functions are:
Separation and Singulation: The fan uses a blast of air to separate a single cup bottom from a stack of discs. This is crucial because the bottoms are very thin and can stick together due to static electricity or the smoothness of the coating.
Transportation and Positioning: The air stream from the fan gently lifts the separated bottom and carries it to the exact location where the cup wall (the pre-formed cone) is waiting. This ensures precise placement for the next step.
Curling Preparation (Key Function): This is the most important role. Before the bottom is sealed, its edge must be slightly curled upwards. The air from the fan helps to "pre-curl" or soften the edge of the paper bottom, making it pliable. This pre-curled edge is essential for creating a strong, leak-proof seal when it is pressed against the cup wall in the next station.
Cleaning: The blast of air also blows away any dust, paper fibers, or microscopic debris that might have settled on the bottom disc. Any contamination at this stage could lead to a weak or leaking seal.
