Turning Features:

Here’s how it works:
 
After placing the workpiece horizontally on a mandrel, the CNC machine rotates it.
The lathe or other cutting tool strips away the excess material to form the outer area of the workpiece into the desired shape.
In addition to creating the cylindrical part, many of these machines are also equipped with a horizontal drill to drill a hole through the center.
CNC machine turning can be used on its own or in combination with other manufacturing processes. On its own, however, this method can’t be used to make oddly shaped parts.
