► Brief Introduction
This monitor uses the oscillometric method to measure NIBP. It can be used for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients.
Oscillometric devices measure the amplitude of pressure changes in the occluding cuff as the cuff is deflated above systolic pressure. The amplitude increases suddenly as the pulse traverses the occlusion of the artery. As the cuff pressure decreases further, the pulsations increase in amplitude, reach a maximum (approximately the mean pressure), and then decrease.
In adult and pediatric mode, blood pressure measurements determined with this device comply with the American National Standard for Electronic or Automated Sphygmomanometers (ANSI/AAMI SP10-1992) for mean error and standard deviation, compared to measurements auscultatory in a representative. patient population. For auscultatory reference, the fifth Korotkoff sound was used to determine diastolic pressure.
In neonatal mode, blood pressure measurements determined with this device meet the American National Standard for Automated or Electronic Sphygmomanometers (ANSI/AAMI SP10-1992) for mean error and standard deviation, compared to intra-arterial measurements in a rep. patient population.
► Measurement Limitations
Measurements are impossible with heart rate extremes of less than 40 bpm or greater than 240 bpm, or if the patient is on a heart-lung machine.
