Poly(lactic acid) or polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable and bioactive thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch (in the United States and Canada), cassava roots, chips or starch (mostly in Asia), or sugarcane(in the rest of the world). In 2010, PLA had the second highest consumption volume of any bioplastic of the world.
Polybutyrate (short for polybutyrate adipate terephthalate, or PBAT) is a biodegradable random copolymer, specifically a copolyesterof adipic acid, 1,4 but an ediol and dimethyl terephthalate. It is generally marketed as a fully biodegrad-able
alternative to low density polyethylene, having many similar properties including flexibility and resilience, allowing it to be
used for many similar uses such as plastic bags and wraps. The structure of the PBAT polymer is shown to the right.
It is depicted as a block co-polymer here due to the common synthetic method of first synthesizing two copolymer blocks and then combining them.
Good degradability
PLA degradable film is not only suitable for domestic compost, but also suitable for seawater degradation environment. In
addition, the blending of PLA and PBAT can also improve the transparency and low temperature resistance of the degraded film. Its toughness is unified: PLA material can effectively reduce the production of material creases after multiple bending due to its unique shape memory function;
