The electric tailgate offers convenience to vehicle owners by eliminating the need to manually open or close the rear door or hatch. This feature is particularly useful when carrying heavy items or when accessing the cargo area in situations where hands may be occupied, such as when holding groceries or luggage.
The operation of an electric tailgate can vary depending on the vehicle model and manufacturer. In most cases, the tailgate can be opened or closed by pressing a button on the key fob, interior control panel, or using a sensor-based system that detects foot movement under the rear bumper. Some vehicles also provide customizable height settings for the tailgate opening to accommodate different parking spaces or user preferences.
In addition to the convenience factor, electric tailgates often include safety features to prevent injury or damage. For example, they may have sensors that can detect obstacles, such as a person or object in the path of the closing tailgate, and automatically reverse the operation to avoid accidents.
The electric tailgate, also known as a power tailgate or automatic tailgate, serves several functions to enhance convenience, safety, and ease of use when accessing the rear cargo area of a vehicle. Here are some key functions of an electric tailgate:
| Automatic Opening and Closing | The primary function of an electric tailgate is to automatically open and close the rear door or hatch of a vehicle. This can be done with the push of a button on the key fob, interior control panel, or through a sensor-based system. The automatic operation eliminates the need for manual effort, making it easier to access the cargo area. |
| Hands-Free Operation | Many electric tailgates feature hands-free operation. This means that you can open or close the tailgate without physically pressing any buttons or using the key fob. Instead, sensor-based systems detect your foot or hand gestures under the rear bumper or other designated areas, allowing for convenient hands-free access to the cargo area. |
| Height Adjustment | Some electric tailgates offer customizable height settings. This allows you to program the tailgate to open to a specific height that suits your needs or the available space. For example, you can set a lower opening height in garages with low ceilings or a higher opening height for easy loading and unloading of larger items. |
| Safety Features | Electric tailgates often incorporate safety features to prevent accidents or injuries. For instance, they may have sensors that detect obstacles in the path of the closing tailgate. If an obstruction is detected, the tailgate will automatically stop and reverse its operation to avoid collisions or damage. |
