The ejection phase represents the final step in plastic injection molding, and its execution quality directly impacts the final product quality. Proper ejection ensures plastic products are retained on the correct mold half (typically the core) and released efficiently using the ejector mechanism.
Optimal Ejector Pin Layout Principles
Balanced Ejection Force: Ensure balanced force distribution across complex structures by increasing the number of ejector pins where necessary
Strategic Placement: Position ejector pins in effective locations including ribs, columns, steps, metal inserts, and other complex structural elements. Arrange symmetrically around ribs and columns whenever possible
Avoid Inclined Surfaces: Refrain from placing ejector pins on slanted surfaces or oversteps. Maintain smooth top surfaces and position in structurally sound rubber areas
Flat Ejector Selection: Utilize flat ejector pins for deep ribs (depth ≥20mm) or where dome ejector placement is challenging. Consider insert forms to facilitate processing
Structural Integrity: Avoid placement near sharp or thin steel sections. Ensure ejector pin top surfaces do not contact cavity sides
Cooling System Consideration: Maintain appropriate distance between ejector pins and water channels to prevent processing issues and water leakage
Exhaust Function: Position ejector pins in areas prone to vacuum formation to facilitate exhaust during ejection, particularly in larger cavity planes
Appearance Considerations: Avoid placement on appearance surfaces for cosmetic parts and in light transmission areas for transparent plastic components
