Combined forces (cutting force, cutting heat, and surrounding media) alter the workpiece surface's original geometric characteristics and physical-mechanical properties. Consequently, 'surface quality' evaluates the conformity of the machined part's surface layer—considering geometric, physical, chemical, or other engineering properties—to the part's technical requirements. Key aspects include:

Surface Roughness: The micro-geometric features of small-spaced peaks and valleys on the precision metal-processed surface. This results primarily from the tool's motion trajectory during precision machining, with a typical wave height-to-wavelength ratio greater than 1:50.
