Material
Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) round mechanical tubing manufactured to ASTM A513 Type 5. It begins as ERW tubing and is then cold-drawn through a mandrel and die to refine the grain, improve surface finish, increase strength, and deliver very tight OD/ID concentricity and wall tolerances. Typical melt chemistries used are SAE/AISI 1020 and 1026 low-carbon steels.
Specifications
Manufacturing route: ERW → DOM cold drawing; available “as drawn (+C)” or stress-relieved/annealed (SRA).
Common grades: 1020 / 1026.
Size range (typical): OD 9.52–203.2 mm (⅜–8″); many suppliers list up to 12″ OD and heavy walls.
Straightness (typical): 0.030 in per 3 ft (0.76 mm/m) ≤ 8.00″ OD; 0.060 in per 3 ft for ≥ 8.00″ OD.
Wall tolerance: tight plus/minus controls per A513 tables (±0.002–0.004 in typical, depending on OD/wall).
Surface & geometry: smooth OD/ID, excellent concentricity, uniform wall.
