Pharmaceutical-grade ethyl cellulose (EC) is a classic hydrophobic pharmaceutical excipient for oral solid dosage forms. It is water-insoluble but soluble in organic solvents, forming a strong and dense film. It can be used for sustained-release coating of tablets, microcapsules, and granules, and can also be used as a sustained-release matrix material for direct tablet compression, stably and controllably delaying dissolution for a long-lasting delivery effect.
It possesses excellent moisture and oxygen barrier properties, protecting the easily oxidized active pharmaceutical ingredient while effectively masking the bitter taste of the, improving patient compliance. It can be compounded with excipients such as HPMC and PEG to flexibly adjust the release profile. Multiple viscosity grades are available, and its quality meets the requirements of ChP2025, USP, and EP pharmacopoeias. It is batch-stable, supports sample testing, and is widely used in the development and production of sustained-release tablets, microcapsules, and granules.
Ethyl cellulose EC (CAS 9004-57-3) is a hydrophobic cellulose polymer powder, insoluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents. It exhibits excellent film-forming and bonding properties and is available in pharmaceutical, food, and electronics industrial grades, categorized by viscosity as N10, N22, N50, and N100. Its main functions include sustained-release and controlled-release, moisture protection, and powder bonding.
