Aluminum or aluminum alloy products are used as anodes in electrolyte solution, and the process of forming aluminum oxide film on the surface is called anodic oxidation treatment. After anodization, aluminum surfaces develop oxide films ranging from several microns to hundreds of microns thick. Compared with natural aluminum alloy oxide films, these treated surfaces demonstrate significantly improved corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and decorative properties.
The aluminum oxide film is porous and requires sealing before use to enhance corrosion resistance and weatherability. Three primary sealing methods are available: high temperature hydration reaction closure, inorganic salt closure, and organic closure.
