1.1 How to adapt the A10VSO pump for high-altitude (≥3000m) applications?

High altitude reduces air pressure, increasing cavitation risk. Modifications: 1) Upgrade the suction line to a larger diameter (e.g., from 1.5” to 2” for A10VSO71) to reduce flow velocity. 2) Install a booster pump (0.5 bar) at the suction port to maintain positive pressure. 3) Use low-viscosity oil (ISO VG 32) to improve fluidity. 4) Adjust the pressure compensator’s setpoint to 5 bar lower than the system’s maximum pressure—reduces pump load in thin air. 5) Seal the motor-pump junction to prevent dust ingress (common at high altitudes).

1.2 What measures are needed for the pump to operate in dusty/mining environments?

Dust contamination is the primary threat. Protective steps: 1) Install a dual-stage breather filter (Rexroth R928006765) on the oil tank—filters particles down to 3μm. 2) Use a pressure-tight pump housing with a vent filter to prevent dust from entering the shaft seal area. 3) Shorten the maintenance interval: Replace filters every 2 months and sample oil every 4 weeks. 4) Apply a corrosion-resistant coating (e.g., zinc-nickel) to the pump’s exterior. 5) After shutdown, blow dust off the pump with compressed air (keep pressure ≤2 bar to avoid damage).

1.3 Can the A10VSO pump be used in cold storage (-30°C) applications?

Yes, with these adaptations: 1) Replace standard NBR seals with FKM (Viton) seals (part R900987423) to avoid hardening. 2) Use synthetic oil (e.g., Mobil SHC 524) with a pour point of -45°C. 3) Install an electric heater in the oil tank (set to 10°C minimum) and a temperature switch to prevent pump start-up until oil reaches 5°C. 4) Insulate the pump and pipelines with closed-cell foam to retain heat. 5) Run the pump at 500 rpm for 5 minutes before increasing to nominal speed—prevents cold oil from causing hydraulic shock.
