Product Overview

In a centrifugal pump, the impeller is the only component that adds energy to the fluid — everything else either guides the flow or contains the pressure. When an impeller wears, the pump loses capacity, the discharge pressure drops, vibration levels rise, and the mechanical seal typically fails sooner because of increased shaft movement. The usual causes are particle erosion that rounds off the vane leading edges, chemical attack that pits the surface, or cavitation damage that erodes the vane tips and hub areas.

This replacement impeller is produced from a FARO 3D laser scan of the original part (or a worn sample you supply). The scan geometry is passed through CFD software to verify that the vane angles, passage widths, and wrap angles reproduce the intended hydraulic performance. It fits FLOWSERVE centrifugal pump models used in industrial water supply, irrigation, and general process applications. Manufacturing Process
  1. Reverse Engineering — FARO 3D scanning captures the impeller geometry as a point cloud; this is converted into a CAD model; CFD simulation checks that the flow passages will perform as expected
  2. Material Selection — Based on the fluid type, temperature, and particle content, we pick from cast iron, wear-resistant iron, steel, stainless steel, duplex SS, or alloy steel
  3. Mould Making — Investment casting die for smaller or intricate impellers; sand mold for larger or simpler geometries
  4. Casting — Wax pattern assembly (investment) or core setting (sand) → shell or mold preparation → pouring → shakeout → heat treatment for stress relief and mechanical properties
  5. CNC Machining → Turning of bore and hub to drawing tolerances → finishing of vane profiles on multi-axis equipment → hole drilling for balance weights → grinding of sealing ring lands → EDM for features that cannot be milled
  6. Dynamic Balancing — Both static and dynamic balancing performed on a hard-bearing balancing machine; residual unbalance kept within ISO 1940 grade G6.3 or better
  7. Surface Treatment — Black oxide, polished finish, hard chrome on wear surfaces, zinc or nickel plate, or specialized coating per the operating environment
  8. Quality Control — Material certificate review → hydrostatic test on the impeller hub seal area → CMM dimensional inspection of bore, OD, and vane geometry → surface profilometer reading → hardness check → NDT (PT for surface cracks, UT for internal soundness, MT for ferromagnetic parts)
