These two are actually different versions of the same material (UNS S32100), with the core difference lying in carbon content. Grade 321 is the "standard version", while 321H is the "high-temperature version (High Carbon)". They have nearly identical corrosion resistance, but differ significantly in high-temperature performance and applicable scenarios. Below is a breakdown of their core properties: · Grade 321 (Standard Version): Stabilized with titanium (Ti), carbon content ≤ 0.08%. Excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion (no post-weld heat treatment required). Recommended long-term service temperature below 800℃. Mainly used in conventional high-temperature applications such as aircraft exhaust pipes, chemical pipelines, and heat exchangers.· Grade 321H (High-Temperature Version): Carbon content increased to 0.04%–0.10% (with a higher lower limit), accompanied by adjusted titanium content. High-temperature strength (creep rupture strength) is 30%–50% higher than that of 321, with a service temperature up to 900℃. Specially designed for long-term high-temperature and high-pressure components such as boiler superheaters and petrochemical cracking furnace tubes. ---How to Choose? · Conventional heat resistance (<800℃) with good weldability required → Choose 321. Cost-effective and requires no post-weld heat treatment.· Long-term service at 800–900℃ under pressure → 321H is mandatory. Otherwise, standard 321 will fail rapidly due to high-temperature creep. Special Notes · 321H is 10%–15% more expensive than 321. Due to higher carbon content, preheating (150–200℃) is required for welding, and post-weld solution treatment is recommended to restore corrosion resistance.· Neither grade is suitable for chloride-containing or strong acid environments, which fall within the application scope of 904L/254SMO.
