RS1500DI Handheld Raman Spectrometer

Fluorescence is the nemesis of conventional Raman spectroscopy. Many critical pharmaceutical ingredients – especially amino acids (e.g., tryptophan, tyrosine), coenzymes (e.g., NADH), cellulose derivatives, and certain color additives – produce overwhelming fluorescence under traditional 785 nm or 532 nm excitation, resulting in unusable spectra. The RS1500DI overcomes this fundamental limitation with its 1064 nm excitation wavelength. At this longer wavelength, fluorescence emission is dramatically reduced, allowing the weak Raman signal to emerge from the background. The result is clean, identifiable spectra for substances that other handheld Raman devices fail to measure.

 

In field tests, the RS1500DI successfully identified highly fluorescent samples such as riboflavin, chlorophyll, curcumin, and various amino acid formulations without any sample preparation. This capability expands the scope of Raman-based raw material identification to cover a much broader range of excipients and APIs.
