In the demanding landscape of advanced materials processing, the sintering of stainless steel components presents a unique set of thermal and chemical challenges. Achieving optimal densification, mechanical strength, and corrosion resistance in stainless steel parts requires a stable, high-performance firing environment. Our High-Purity Mullite Setter Plates are precision-engineered refractory solutions specifically designed to withstand the rigorous conditions of 1350°C firing cycles, providing unparalleled support for your most critical stainless steel components.
One of the primary failure modes in stainless steel sintering is surface contamination from the kiln furniture. Our mullite setter plates are formulated with high chemical purity to prevent adverse reactions with stainless steel alloys (such as 316L, 304, and 17-4 PH). The dense, non-porous surface acts as a barrier against the migration of iron sulfide and other impurities that can cause carburization or metal dusting on the component surface. By preventing slagging and sticking, our plates ensure that the sintered stainless steel parts retain their intended chemical composition, luster, and corrosion-resistant properties.
At 1350°C, many refractory materials begin to soften, leading to sagging under load. Our mullite setters are manufactured using advanced isostatic pressing techniques, resulting in high cold crushing strength and excellent hot modulus of rupture (HMOR). This allows the plates to support heavy stacks of stainless steel components without bending or breaking. The robust construction reduces the frequency of plate replacement, lowers operational costs, and increases the safety of your furnace operations.
The quality of the setter plate directly influences the quality of the finished part. Our plates feature a meticulously ground surface finish that prevents surface pitting on the stainless steel components. We maintain tight dimensional tolerances (±1mm) to ensure compatibility with automated handling systems and consistent loading within the furnace. Custom sizes and shapes are available to fit specific furnace configurations, including pusher plates, batts, and hearth tiles.
Material Composition: High-Purity Synthetic Mullite
Max Service Temperature: 1500°C
Firing Temperature: Optimized for 1350°C cycles
Bulk Density: ≥ 2.6 g/cm³
Porosity: Low open porosity (<15%) to prevent gas entrapment
Thermal Shock Resistance: Excellent (withstands rapid cooling from 1000°C
These setter plates are ideal for a wide range of stainless steel processing applications, including:
Metal Injection Molding (MIM): Supporting delicate brown and debound parts during final sintering.
Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing): Providing a stable base for post-processing heat treatment of printed stainless steel parts.
Powder Metallurgy: Used in continuous belt furnaces and batch furnaces for sintering structural components.
