Diagnostic X‑ray tubes produce a spectrum of photons peaking between 50 and 150 keV. Nuclear medicine, however, deals with discrete gamma energies that vary by isotope. This fundamental difference drives different lead glass specifications.

Prolonged gamma exposure causes lead glass to turn yellow‑brown due to color center formation. Jovvi nuclear grade glass contains 0.8–1.2 wt% CeO₂, which traps holes before they form stable color centers. Testing confirms: after 10⁶ mGy (typical SPECT control room, 10 years), ΔE color change <3.0 – barely detectable.
A 1,200×800 mm lead glass panel can have local variations in lead distribution. Jovvi performs 100% grid scanning (20×20 mm resolution) to ensure attenuation varies by no more than ±0.08 mm Pb. For nuclear medicine, non‑uniformity creates "hot spots" behind the glass – unacceptable.
In X‑ray rooms, a small bubble is a cosmetic issue. In nuclear medicine hot labs, where pharmacists read syringe graduations through glass, a bubble >0.5 mm directly over the scale can cause dosing errors. Jovvi nuclear grade guarantees zero bubbles >0.3 mm in the central 100 mm diameter viewing zone.
Small panels (300×400 mm) for fume hoods experience repeated opening/closing vibrations. Jovvi applies edge chamfering (0.5×45°) and chemical strengthening to resist chipping – nuclear grade panels have 2× the edge strength of standard.
