Every stainless steel faucet polishing line faces the same question sooner or later: how do you prove that this batch was polished the same way as last month's batch—the one that passed PVD adhesion with zero rejects?

Manual polishing has no answer. Operator-taught robot programmes have a partial answer—but "taught" paths drift when the robot is re-zeroed, when a new programme is uploaded, or when a different operator re-teaches the same model. The path that worked in March is not provably the same path running in September.

The LR-POLISH-CNC-304 is a CNC-controlled robotic faucet polishing machine for SUS304 stainless steel. CNC-controlled means the polishing path is derived from your faucet's CAD geometry, compiled into a multi-axis interpolated programme, and executed with µm-level path repeatability—the same coordinates, the same feed rates, the same dwell times, run identically on every part, in every batch, on every shift. The programme is the process. The programme does not drift, does not forget, and does not have a bad day.

For 304 stainless faucet manufacturers supplying PVD- or chrome-plated product to retailers and distributors who audit surface consistency—this is the machine that makes "batch-to-batch consistency" a number, not a promise.

CAD-Derived Multi-Axis Interpolated Paths

Every polishing path in the LR-POLISH-CNC-304 is derived directly from the faucet's CAD surface model—not hand-taught on the machine. The programme is the geometry.

Feed-Rate-Profiled Dwell Control

SUS304 polishes to its final Ra through accumulated compound dwell—the time the polishing wheel spends in contact per unit area of surface. Two polishing passes at the same force but different feed rates deliver different Ra. The LR-POLISH-CNC-304 controls feed rate per path point in the CNC programme:

  • High-curvature sections (arch base, shoulder transition): lower feed rate → longer dwell → more Ra reduction per pass
  • Straight sections (shank OD in Phase S): higher feed rate → consistent dwell, no over-polishing
  • Weld zone (Phase W): profiled feed rate—slower over the seam centre, ramping to nominal either side
Offline Programming

Adding a new faucet model or updating an existing programme on a taught-path cell requires stopping the machine, setting up the robot and teaching the new path live—during which the cell produces nothing. On the LR-POLISH-CNC-304:

  • New model programming is done entirely on the offline workstation—the running cell is not touched
  • The new programme is simulated (collision check, coverage verification, Ra prediction) before upload
  • Upload to the CNC controller takes [TBC] min during a scheduled tool change—no production stop
  • If the new programme is rejected during simulation, the existing programme continues running; there is no production gap
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "CNC-controlled" mean for faucet polishing—isn't any robot programme a form of CNC?

CNC-controlled means the polishing path is derived from CAD geometry and executed by a multi-axis interpolation controller with µm-level path repeatability—the same as a machining centre. A hand-taught robot programme is a list of manually recorded waypoints; the path between them is interpolated by the robot controller, and the waypoints themselves drift every time the programme is re-taught. A CNC programme is a file of calculated coordinates derived from the CAD surface—it does not drift, cannot be "re-taught" incorrectly, and produces exactly the same path every time it runs. The difference shows up in batch-to-batch Ra consistency and in the quality of the audit evidence you can provide to a PVD or chrome plating buyer.

We don't have a CAD model for some of our older faucet designs. Can the machine still be programmed?

Yes—for faucet models without a CAD file, we reverse-engineer the surface from physical samples using structured light scanning ([TBC] scanner; surface accuracy [TBC] mm). The scan is used as the input to the offline programming workstation in place of the CAD file. The process takes [TBC] h per model. Confirm which models lack CAD and we include the scan step in the commissioning plan.

What happens to the polishing programme when the robot is re-zeroed after a collision or maintenance?

The CNC programme stores coordinates relative to the fixture datum, not relative to the robot's zero position. After re-zeroing, a datum re-calibration cycle runs (robot touches a reference sphere on the fixture; [TBC] min) and the coordinate frame is re-aligned to the fixture datum. The programme then runs at the same coordinates as before the re-zero—no re-teaching, no path drift. The re-calibration event is logged with a timestamp in the process record.
