A die cast aluminum part does not leave the die ready for coating. It leaves with parting-line flash, a gate stub, ejector-pin marks, casting skin and—depending on the application—a surface Ra that is too rough for paint adhesion, too unpredictable for anodize color uniformity, and too inconsistent for PVD longevity.
Between the die cast cell and the coating booth, every aluminum casting must travel through a surface finishing chain that removes defects and conditions the surface. In most die casting plants, this chain consists of disconnected stations: a trim press for the gate, a manual flash bench, a deburr station for holes and edges, and a polishing or shot-blast step before the paint line. Each station is operated by different personnel, uses different tooling logic, and produces results that subsequent stations cannot verify.
The LR-SFS-DCA is a turnkey robotic surface finishing system for die cast aluminum parts. Turnkey means one supplier designs the complete system, integrates all cells, commissions the full line, and takes responsibility for the surface finishing result—from the first station after the die cast cell to the final part confirmation before the coating booth. You specify what the part looks like coming off the die and what Ra or GU the coating line requires; the LR-SFS-DCA system delivers every part to that specification, automatically, without requiring you to integrate the cells yourself.

Turnkey Delivery – One Supplier, Complete System, One Responsible Party
The most consequential aspect of the LR-SFS-DCA is not any individual cell feature—it is the scope of the supplier's responsibility. When die cast finishing is assembled from separately purchased machines, accountability gaps exist between them: the deburr machine supplier says the part left their machine correct; the polishing machine supplier says the Ra was correct when it left theirs; nobody is responsible for the pre-coat result at the end of the chain.
In the LR-SFS-DCA turnkey model:
  • System design: LR-SFS selects the correct cell combination for your part range, production volume and coating requirements—not the combination that maximizes individual cell revenue.
  • Integration engineering: Conveyors, AGV links, pallet systems and data interfaces between cells are designed as a system—not added as afterthoughts.
  • Commissioning: The full system is commissioned to an acceptance standard defined by the pre-coat Ra or GU target for your coating process—not by individual cell runoff.
  • Ongoing responsibility: If the system's pre-coat output drifts outside specification, the single supplier is the single point of contact—not a negotiation between multiple suppliers about whose machine is at fault.

Stage Sequence Rationale: Polishing over an unremoved burr or gate stub rolls the defect into the surface—the polishing stage then spends time on a part that will fail pre-coat inspection because the deburr stage didn't complete. Stage 1 must confirm deburr-complete before Stage 2 begins. Grinding and polishing a part that still carries a burr introduces the risk of burr smear—the abrasive moves the burr material rather than cutting the base metal. Stage 2 always receives deburr-confirmed parts.

What does "turnkey" mean—do you supply the cells, the conveyors and the integration?
Yes—turnkey in the LR-SFS-DCA context means complete scope: system cell selection and configuration, inter-cell conveyor or AGV integration, data platform and MES interface, full system commissioning to an acceptance standard defined by your pre-coat Ra or GU target, and post-commissioning support under a single contract. You are not responsible for integrating machines from different suppliers or closing the accountability gap between them.
We have an existing die cast line and an existing paint booth. Can the system fit between them?
Yes. The system's infeed is designed to match your die cast line's output format (conveyor, takt-timed robot unload, or pallet buffer), and the outfeed is designed to match your coating line's input format (conveyor speed, accumulation table, overhead trolley or pallet). We confirm both interface specifications at the system design stage before any equipment is specified.
We run A380 aluminum housings and Zamak 5 zinc fittings on the same casting line. Can the system handle both?
Yes. Each part's material flag is called automatically via barcode or RFID at each cell's infeed. A380 and Zamak 5 parts can run on the same Stage 1 and Stage 2 cells with different material-flag recipes—the cells apply the correct force, speed and compound for each alloy. If your volume warrants dedicated cells per alloy (for throughput rather than flexibility reasons), we configure separate cells with the same data platform.
