High Light High Precision Robotic Grinding And Polishing MachinePolishing Machine for Stainless Steel FaucetFaucet Body Grinding And Polishing Machine
High-precision Robotic Grinding and Polishing Machine for Stainless Steel Faucet Body
Stainless steel faucet bodies sit at the intersection of two unforgiving requirements: functional precision (seal-face flatness, thread-neck roundness, internal bore finish for the cartridge seat) and aesthetic perfection (mirror-gloss exterior that your end customer sees every day at the sink).
Most surface-finishing lines treat these as two separate problems — a grinding station for the functional surfaces, a polishing station for the cosmetic ones — with manual re-handling and re-fixturing between them. The LR-GP-FB collapses both into a single robotic cell: sequential high-precision grinding followed by polishing, on the same fixture, in one continuous programme. The functional surfaces are finished to Ra specification without losing dimensional tolerance; the cosmetic exterior arrives at mirror-ready substrate before plating or PVD. And every faucet body in the batch — 304, 316L, cast or forged — comes out the same.

Proprietary Selling Points
1. Single-fixture grinding-to-polishing — zero datum error between phases
The fundamental problem with two-station finishing is that every re-fixture introduces a positional error: the polishing robot no longer knows exactly where grinding left material. On a mirror-finish exterior, that error means polishing passes don't align with the ground surface — resulting in residual scratches running in the wrong direction, visible as "witness lines" after plating.
In the LR-GP-FB, the faucet body stays in the same dual-datum fixture from the first grinding pass through the final polishing pass. The transition from grinding to polishing is a programme phase change — the robot switches tool (abrasive → buffing wheel), adjusts contact force, and continues on the same coordinate frame. The polishing path is geometrically coherent with the grinding path because they share the same fixture origin.
Fixture repositioning error: 0 (single fixture); datum: thread-neck OD + base-flange face.
2. OD-tolerance-safe grinding — precision surfaces excluded by zone
The faucet body carries several surfaces that must not be touched by grinding stock removal: the cartridge-seat bore diameter, the thread-neck OD (if pre-cut), the seal-face shoulder and the base-flange mating face. These are hard-excluded from the grinding phases by path boundary zones set in the recipe:
  • The robot path halts [TBC] mm from each protected boundary
  • Contact force is force-limited to [TBC] N maximum in the grinding phases, preventing abrasive penetration past the surface roughness layer into the dimensional layer
  • The polishing phases may cross these zones (polishing wheels remove roughness, not dimension)
Result: seal faces and thread geometry are untouched by grinding; only surface roughness is addressed by polishing. The part leaves the cell with functional dimensions intact.
Boundary zone clearance: [TBC] mm; grinding force limit: [TBC] N.
3. Ra-staged stock removal — no work-hardening of 304/316L
Stainless steel work-hardens when grinding force and heat accumulate. The LR-GP-FB uses a staged Ra reduction protocol rather than a single aggressive grind.
5. Internal bore polishing — spout bore and cartridge seat reached
The spout outlet bore and the cartridge-seat bore are visible or functionally critical inner surfaces that hand polishing reaches inefficiently at volume. Phase P3 uses an axial bore-entry tool:
  • The robot enters the bore on the tool axis, the bore wheel expands radially to contact the inner wall, and the robot executes a slow oscillation as the part rotates on C-axis
  • Bore finish improves from casting-rough to [TBC] Ra, removing scale and casting skin from the water-contact inner surface
  • This phase is optional and recipe-controlled — some customers require bore polish for hygiene / flow standards; others do not. It is activated or deactivated per model in the recipe without hardware changes
Five Payback Drivers
Driver Mechanism
Direct labour 3 operators across two stations → 1 cell loader; night operation option [TBC]
Plating reject elimination In-line pre-plate check flags surface failures before the plating tank — chrome/PVD scrap falls to [TBC]%
Re-handling eliminated Single fixture grinding-to-polishing; no transport, re-fixture or datum reset between stations
Consumable control Abrasive belts and polishing compound metered per phase; no over-use on stainless hard spots
Capacity de-coupling from skill Output no longer limited by number of experienced stainless grinder-polishers; a second cell doubles capacity without staff recruitment
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "high-precision" mean for a faucet body — isn't this just a polishing machine?
High-precision refers specifically to two things: (1) the grinding phases remove surface stock in controlled Ra stages without touching the functional dimensions (seal face, thread-neck OD, cartridge bore diameter) — those are excluded by hard path boundaries and force limits; and (2) the single-fixture design means the polishing path is geometrically coherent with the ground surface, so there is no datum error between grinding and polishing. High-precision grinding-and-polishing means the functional geometry survives the finishing process intact.
Our faucet bodies are investment-cast with a rough skin. Can the machine handle the incoming condition?
Yes. Phase G1 is configured for as-cast or as-forged incoming condition: the coarse belt or flap disc addresses casting skin, gate stubs and weld seam in the first pass before any fine grinding or polishing begins. Confirm your incoming Ra and we specify the correct G1 abrasive and force.
The seal face and cartridge bore are precision features. Won't grinding damage them?
These surfaces are hard-excluded from the grinding phases by path boundary zones in the recipe — the robot path stops [TBC] mm from each protected feature. Force is also capped below the threshold for dimensional removal. Polishing phases may cross these zones (polishing removes roughness, not dimension). We confirm boundary placement with your part samples and drawings before finalising the programme.
