Lightweight Rock Wool Boards : Easy To Install In Various Construction Sites
As a commonly used thermal insulation material, rock wool boards are closely characterized by their "light weight" and "easy installation", which not only reduce construction difficulty and costs but also lessen the load on building structures.
Lightweight Properties
The "light weight" of rock wool boards lies in their "lightweight and high strength" achieved through reasonable density design. The bulk density of ordinary rock wool boards is usually 80-150 kg/m³, which is only 1/13 to 1/25 of that of cement mortar (approximately 2000 kg/m³) and even lower than that of pine wood (around 500 kg/m³). For example, a 1 m² rock wool board with a thickness of 50 mm weighs only 4-7.5 kg per piece, which can be easily carried by a single person without the need for heavy hoisting equipment. The lightweight feature also significantly reduces the load on building structures. For instance, when 50 mm thick rock wool boards are used for external walls, the weight increase per square meter is only 5-8 kg, much lower than that of perlite boards (about 30 kg/m²). There is no need for additional reinforcement of the main building structure, making them particularly suitable for the renovation of old buildings or light steel structure buildings (such as factories and prefabricated houses) and avoiding risks like structural cracking and deformation. Meanwhile, rock wool boards can be flexibly cut into narrow strips or special-shaped blocks. After cutting, the weight of each piece is further reduced, allowing construction workers to operate with one hand and reducing physical exertion.
Installation Advantages
This lightweight feature is directly translated into installation advantages. Combined with their physical form and supporting auxiliary material design, the installation process is simple and highly adaptable. Since the weight of each piece is mostly less than 10 kg, a team of 2-3 people can complete the process of "handling, positioning, and fixing" during the installation of external walls and roofs, without relying on equipment such as cranes and elevators. This is especially suitable for high-altitude operations or narrow spaces, reducing equipment rental costs and safety risks. Rock wool boards offer flexible installation methods; suitable solutions can be selected based on the base material, and the operation threshold is low. For adhesive fixing, special mortar or adhesives are used for pasting. Due to the light weight of the boards, they are not easy to fall off after pasting, and there is no need for long-term support while waiting for solidification. For mechanical fixing with insulation nails (anchors), since the boards have low density and are easy to penetrate, holes can be quickly drilled with an electric hand drill. Only 4-6 anchors are needed for each board, and the installation efficiency is more than 30% higher than that of rigid insulation boards (such as extruded boards). When splicing, the edges of the boards can be processed into tongue-and-groove or flat-mouth shapes, and sealing can be achieved through direct splicing, reducing the time spent on gap treatment.
