The fire resistance performance of rock wool boards is not merely the simple characteristic of "non-combustibility", but rather it achieves progressive safety guarantees of "preventing fire occurrence, controlling fire spread, and reducing fire damage" through the combined effects of "non-combustion and fire resistance, high-temperature resistance and structural stability, low toxicity and reduced hazards". Whether it is the basic protection for building exteriors or the protection for high-risk scenarios in industries and transportation, its fire resistance performance is the core support for meeting safety standards and reducing fire risks.
Preventing Flame Spread Along Carriers
When open flames occur near pipes or cables, rock wool boards themselves are non-combustible and do not produce molten drips. They can block direct flame scorching of pipe/cable surfaces, avoiding secondary fires caused by melting of cable insulation layers or damage to gas pipe seals. For example, a cable tray covered with 50mm-thick rock wool boards can resist flame attack for 1.5-2 hours in standard fire tests, far exceeding the flame-retardant duration of ordinary organic protective materials.
Insulating High-Temperature Thermal Radiation
High-temperature thermal radiation during fires can easily cause premature damage to pipes/cables not directly exposed to flames. The low thermal conductivity of rock wool boards can effectively block the transmission of thermal radiation, maintaining the surface temperature of the clad pipes/cables within a safe range and ensuring their functional integrity.
Reducing Condensate Hazard
Low-temperature pipes (such as air conditioning refrigerant pipes and chilled water pipes) are prone to condensation due to temperature differences. Accumulated water can accelerate pipe corrosion and cable insulation aging. The insulation performance of rock wool boards can reduce the temperature difference between the pipe and the environment, minimizing condensation formation. Meanwhile, their porous structure can absorb a small amount of condensate and volatilize it slowly, preventing water accumulation on the surfaces of pipes.
