The relief valve is connected in parallel to the hydraulic system and is normally closed. When the system pressure exceeds the set value, the oil thrust overcomes the spring force, the valve spool opens, the excess oil is discharged back to the tank, and after the pressure drops to the set value, the valve spool resets and closes to maintain stable system pressure.

When the system pressure does not exceed the set value, the valve spool is closed by spring force. When the pressure exceeds the limit, the oil push force opens the valve spool, and the excess oil overflows back to the oil tank. When the pressure drops to the set value, the spring pushes the valve spool to reset and close, and the cycle maintains stable system pressure.
