1117 is the American standard ASTM standard free cutting steel. Typical applications for 1117 include: Automatic Screw Machine parts. Carburized Parts. Gears.1117 is not readily welded due to high sulphur content. Because of the addition of lead in 11L17, its weldability is also poor.
