Application & Introduction Damping Sheets Also known as mastic panels or damping blocks, they are viscoelastic materials attached to the inner surface of the vehicle body, closely adhering to the steel plate walls of the body. Their main function is to reduce noise and vibration, i.e., to exert a damping effect. All passenger cars are equipped with damping sheets; in addition, they are also used in aerospace vehicles, aircraft and other machinery that require vibration and noise reduction. Damping refers to the physical phenomenon where an oscillating or vibrating system is resisted, causing energy to dissipate over time. When ships or floating marine structures oscillate in waves, damping is mainly external damping such as viscous damping and wave-making damping. In countries with advanced automotive industries such as Europe and the United States, automotive damping sheets generally use polymer resin materials or rubber materials as raw materials. Both raw materials do not emit toxic or harmful gases. Asphalt materials are actually widely used in automobiles, mainly in the form of asphalt damping sheets. As mentioned earlier, damping sheets (also called mastic or damping blocks) are viscoelastic materials attached to the inner surface of the vehicle body, clinging to the steel plate walls. Their role is to reduce the vibration of the body steel plates, lower noise, and improve the driving quality of the vehicle. Overseas, polymer resin materials or rubber materials are commonly used for automotive damping sheets, which are relatively environmentally friendly and do not emit harmful gases. However, in China, more than 90% of automobiles—whether domestic or imported—use asphalt damping sheets, due to the lack of mandatory national standards. From low-end Chery QQ, mid-range Volkswagen Passat to high-end Audi A4L, all adopt asphalt damping sheets. In this regard, it achieves equality for both the poor and the rich.
