ASTM A178 is a resistance-welded carbon steel tube material specifically designed for boiler superheater tubes. Material and Specifications
The base material of this product is carbon steel, manufactured using the resistance welding process. This process melts the edges of the steel tube using heat generated by electric current and joins them under pressure, offering high production efficiency and good cost-effectiveness. Its specifications cover a wide range, with outer diameters typically from 1/2 inch (approximately 12.7 mm) to 4 inches (approximately 101.6 mm). The wall thickness is selected within the range specified by the standard according to the pressure and temperature requirements of the boiler design, to adapt to superheater systems of different power levels.
Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of ASTM A178 carbon steel must meet the requirements in the table below. The content of key elements such as carbon and manganese is strictly controlled to ensure the material's oxidation resistance and creep resistance at high temperatures.

Applications
