EN 10217-4 Electric Welded Non-Alloy Steel Tube (Specified Low-Temperature Properties)
Material
EN 10217-4 covers electric welded, circular tubes for pressure purposes, made from non-alloy quality steels with specified low-temperature properties (two test categories).
Typical grades include P215NL (1.0451) and P265NL (1.0453).
Steels are required to be fully killed.
Specifications
Manufacturing process: Electric welded (ERW / EW) pressure tube per EN 10217-4 scope.
Steel grades (common): P215NL, P265NL.
Test category: TC 1 or TC 2 (defines inspection/testing level).
Supply options (typical by order): OD & WT per request; random/fixed lengths; plain ends / bevel ends; black / oiled / coated surfaces; marking & packing as agreed.
Main Features
Designed for low-temperature pressure service: mandatory Charpy impact requirements (e.g., at -40°C for EN 10217-4 testing).
Strict weld quality rules: the weld area must be free from cracks/lack of fusion; weld seam repairs are not permitted.
Leak-tightness verification: hydrostatic test or electromagnetic test is required for leak-tightness.
NDT requirements: TC1 requires full-length weld seam NDT; TC2 requires NDT of weld seam and tube body (with additional NDT options).

EN 10217-4 requires leak-tightness testing and defines NDT scope by test category; it also forbids weld seam repairs, reducing hidden defect risk.
We can offer TC2 with enhanced NDT coverage when your project is sensitive to defects (cryogenic or low-temp start-up/shutdown conditions).
“Can you support traceability and third-party acceptance?”
EN 10217-4 references inspection documents (EN 10204) and includes ordering examples using inspection certificates; it also notes alignment with EU pressure equipment compliance context.
