ASTM A500 is the standard specification for cold-formed, welded, and seamless carbon steel structural tubing. Primarily used in construction and industrial fabrication, these square hollow sections provide a high strength-to-weight ratio. They are produced in Grades A, B, C, and D, with Grade C being the most common due to its superior yield strength (50,000 psi) compared to Grade B (46,000 psi) and Grade A (39,000 psi).

For lighter specified wall thicknesses, the minimum elongation values shall be calculated by the formula: percent elongation in 2 in. (50 mm) = 61t + 12, rounded to the nearest percent.
