Q1: What is the structure of the side airbags in the 2022 model 530Li? Are they the same on both the left and right sides?
The side air curtain of G38 is a single-sided integrated head air curtain, covering the entire range from the A-pillar to the B-pillar to the C-pillar. It is fully enclosed in the groove on the underside of the side roof panel/B-pillar. Its function is to protect the heads of all passengers in the vehicle during side impact or rollover.
The left and right sides are completely incompatible (mirror image version). When purchasing or exchanging items, it must be clearly marked as "Left" (driver's side / left-hand drive / left) / "Right" (passenger side / right-hand drive / right). Installing them in the wrong position will cause the unfolding path to become completely skewed and ineffective.
Q2: Can second-hand/scrapped car airbags be purchased?
It is strongly not recommended. Unless you can be 100% certain of the following two conditions:
The source vehicle has never experienced a side collision / the airbag has never been triggered, and the safety pin of the gas generator has never been pulled out.
The decorative panel fasteners are not broken, and the airbag pouches are not aged or brittle (the fabric from dismantled parts that have been parked for over 6 years will degrade and the bursting pressure does not meet the standard).
Q3: After a side impact, the airbag exploded. Besides replacing the airbag, what else needs to be replaced?
Hardware that must be replaced:
The entire side air curtain assembly (cannot just replace the gas generator/patch the airbag; the entire component must be replaced)
Air curtain fixing bolts (the anchor bolts for the B-pillar/C-pillar are one-time torque yield components and must be replaced. They should be tightened according to the ETK specified torque and cannot be tightened by hand.)
If the collision also triggers the side airbags on the same side (the small airbags on the seat sides, which are separate from the curtain airbags), the side airbags must also be replaced simultaneously.
