A: Sure. The pedestrian protection system of Lexus is an important part of the passive safety system. Its core principle is to install pressure or acceleration sensors in the front part of the vehicle (usually inside the front bumper). When the vehicle travels at a specific speed (generally within the range of 25-50 km/h commonly seen in urban commuting) and collides with a pedestrian, the sensors will instantly transmit the signal to the control unit, triggering the pop-up actuator hidden at the hinge of the hood (such as a gas generator or a pop-up support rod). The rear part of the hood will rise upward by approximately 7-10 centimeters within milliseconds, creating a buffer space between the hard engine body and the hood, significantly absorbing the energy of the pedestrian's head impact and reducing the risk of serious injury.
Q2: Is this device set to be on by default? Can the customer manually turn it off in the vehicle's system?
A: The hardware triggering mechanism of the pedestrian protection device is a pre-set passive safety feature that is factory-installed and cannot be turned off by the driver through the vehicle's console or buttons. This fully complies with pedestrian safety regulations in major markets worldwide. It should be noted that the "Pre-Collision Safety System (PCS)" in Lexus Safety System+ has pedestrian detection and automatic braking functions, and it also emits a pedestrian warning sound. The warning sound at the active safety level can be temporarily turned off by the owner through the "Vehicle Control - Other" control path when confirming the surrounding safety, but the underlying physical pop-up protection remains in a ready state.
