Spherical roller thrust bearings have specially designed raceways and asymmetrical rollers. The bearings can accommodate axial loads acting in one direction and simultaneously acting radial loads. The load is transmitted between the raceways via the rollers at an angle to the bearing axis, while the flange guides the rollers.

The advantages:
Able to bear the high axial load and moderate radial load and run at pretty high speed; Low friction and high load ratings; Self-align ability make it an ideal type of bearing used where housing was hard to keep accurate align with shaft or shaft was inflected under heavy load.

Axial cylindrical roller bearings and axial cylindrical roller and cage assemblies can be used at operating temperatures from –20 °C to +120 °C.
