Amorton is Panasonic's world's first integrated (series-connectable) amorphous silicon solar cell, developed using decomposed material gases to form a film on a series of substrates. Unlike crystalline silicon, amorphous silicon features irregular atomic arrangements, leading to more frequent photon-silicon interactions and higher light absorption. This allows for the production of ultrathin films (less than 1 m) for power generation. Amorton cells can be manufactured with various voltages by connecting multiple cells in series on a single substrate, offering flexibility in design for diverse applications. They are highly sensitive to the visible light spectrum, making them suitable for both power generation and light sensing.
