The Allegro A1356 is a high-precision, programmable Hall-effect linear sensor IC featuring an open-drain Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) output. This device converts an applied magnetic field into a digitally encoded PWM signal, offering superior noise immunity compared to analog outputs. Its integrated BiCMOS monolithic circuit includes a Hall element, precision temperature-compensating circuitry, a high-gain amplifier, dynamic offset cancellation, and PWM conversion. Key benefits include simultaneous programming of PWM carrier frequency, quiescent duty cycle, and sensitivity for system optimization, factory-programmed temperature coefficient and drift, and end-of-line programmability. The PWM output provides increased noise immunity and precise recoverability after temperature cycling, with output duty cycle clamps for short-circuit diagnostics. It operates over a wide ambient temperature range of 40C to 150C and a wide power supply range of 4.5 to 18 V.

Programming is accomplished via the VCC pin using a series of input voltage pulses (VP(LOW), VP(MID), VP(HIGH)). Features include Try mode, Blow mode, and Lock mode for parameter setting and permanent configuration. Key programmable parameters include Sensitivity, Quiescent Duty Cycle Output, and PWM Carrier Frequency. A 0.1 F blowing capacitor (CBLOW) is required during programming.
The Output Calibration Test Mode provides a fixed 50% duty cycle for 50 ms upon power-up, regardless of the applied magnetic field. This mode aids in compensating for potential threshold errors caused by differences in ground potentials between the sensor and interface circuitry. It must be enabled by blowing a specific programming bit.
