The positioners have the task of guaranteeing that the valve position, which is represented by the controlled variable x, is correctly assigned to the input signal, represented by the reference variable w. This is accomplished by comparing the input signal from the control system with the movement of the control valve. As a result, an output signal pressure pst, representing the output variable y, is emitted.
For double-acting actuators, two opposed signal pressures are required. A reversing amplifier fulfills this function by producing the necessary signal pressures.
In summary, the positioners play an integral role in ensuring that the valve and input signals are precisely correlated. These devices compare control system signals to valve movements, ultimately providing support for the required output signal pressure. For double-acting actuators, a reversing amplifier produces the necessary opposed signal pressures.
Versions for use in hazardous areas are available with type of protection intrinsic safety II 2G Ex ia IIC T6 or II 3G Ex nA II T6 for Zone 2.
This product has a "Flameproof enclosure" Ex d with Type 3766 Positioner and Type 6116 i/p Converter (Fig. 2). It can be directly attached to Type 3277 Actuator (Fig. 3) or other actuators according to IEC 60534-6. It can also be attached to rotary actuators according to VDI/VDE 3845.
