Iso E Super is not an extract of natural ambergris, but rather a synthetic fragrance molecule. It was created to mimic the unique, long-lasting, warm, animalic aroma of natural ambergris while avoiding the scarcity, extreme cost, and associated ethical issues of natural ambergris.
Its chemical name is complex, representing a mixture of multiple isomers. Its greatest characteristic is its extremely long-lasting, stable, and layered aroma.

It mimics the complex aroma of natural ambergris—warm, dry, with hints of leather, tobacco, and the sea—and is at the heart of ambergris-themed fragrances.
