Galvanizing is one of the most effective and economical methods for protecting bare steel from corrosive environments. Zinc is not only a barrier between steel and the environment, but also sacrifices itself to protect the steel plate below. When two different metals are in contact and coupled with water and oxygen, sacrifice or current protection occurs. Zinc preferentially corrodes iron in steel. This protection prevents corrosion of the steel in areas not covered by zinc. Therefore, the diffusion of corrosion from cutting edges, drilling holes, etc. is minimized.
There are many factors affecting the size of zinc flowers. When the zinc liquid composition has the conditions for the formation of zinc flowers, the following factors will affect the size of zinc flowers:
(1) Raw material: the thicker the raw material steel plate, the smaller the surface roughness, the larger the zinc flower.
(2) Cooling rate: the faster the cooling rate, the shorter the crystal growth time, the smaller the zinc flower.
(3) Number of crystal nuclei: The size of zinc flower is closely related to the number of crystal nuclei of zinc flower. When the surface of steel base is rough or the surface cleanliness is poor, the zinc flower is relatively small. Zinc grains are formed on steel base, and the more nuclei there are, the smaller the zinc flowers will be. This principle is used in the production process of small zinc flowers.
