Welded steel grating is an open steel flooring panel: parallel bearing bars are joined to cross bars by automatic resistance press welding at every intersection, so the finished panel behaves as one rigid grid rather than a row of separate bars. It is specified for walkways, platforms, mezzanines, stair treads and trench covers because it carries load, drains water, passes light and air, and needs very little maintenance.
GNEE STEEL runs welded grating on automated press-welding lines and finishes each panel to the drawing: cut to size, banded, and hot-dip galvanized where the duty requires it. Panels are quoted to YB/T 4001.1-2007 or ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531-17, whichever your drawings name.
Bearing bars are fed flat-side up into the press welder; cross bars are fed across them at the set pitch. At each crossing the machine applies high current and pressure at the same moment, forging the two bars into one joint with no filler metal and no notch cut into the bearing bar. Because every intersection is fused, the cross bars do more than hold spacing — they brace each bearing bar against buckling and spread transverse loads across the panel.
One rule never changes: bearing bars carry the load and must span across the supporting beams. A panel laid the other way round has almost no capacity.

For platforms and walkways the clear opening between bearing bars should stay below 35 mm and the cross bar opening below 150 mm — the limit written into the Chinese grating standard.

W means welded, G hot-dip galvanized, U untreated; they are often omitted when the default applies. If your RFQ says nothing about surface, we quote untreated and price galvanizing separately.
The pitch sets the pattern; the bearing bar sets the strength. Stiffness rises roughly with the square of bar depth, so a deeper bar buys more span than a tighter pitch. At 30 mm pitch, nominal black weights are about 35 kg/m² for a 25×5 mm bar, 43 kg/m² for 32×5 mm and 55 kg/m² for 40×5 mm. Add roughly 5% once the panel is galvanized.
Serrated grating is cut before welding, and the notches remove metal from the top edge of the bar. The usual response is to specify the next deeper bar, which is why serrated panels are quoted one size up rather than on the same bar as a smooth panel.
Use saddle clips rather than welding wherever panels must be lifted again: two per panel, four on panels removed regularly. Close cut edges with a banding bar welded all round. Leave a gap between panels for thermal movement, and confirm the bearing bar direction on the drawing before ordering.
Welded grating fuses bearing bars to cross bars at every intersection, which gives the stiffest panel and the best transverse load path. Press-locked grating is mechanically locked and is usually chosen for a flatter, cleaner top surface.
Yes. Stainless 304 and 316 are used for food, chemical and marine duty; 316 carries molybdenum for chloride exposure. Aluminium 6061-T6 and 6063-T6 are used where weight or non-sparking behaviour matters.
Panels are cut, banded and galvanized to the drawing and delivered on steel pallets, strapped and wrapped. Cut-outs, notches and fixing layouts are produced with the order so there is no field cutting.
