36mm Electric-Hydraulic Wire Rope Anchor Winch | Single Drum Marine Anchor Handling & Mooring Winch
Product Overview
The 36mm electric-hydraulic wire rope anchor winch is a horizontal single-drum deck machine for vessels using an approved wire-rope anchoring arrangement. The anchor rode uses steel wire rope as the main flexible member, with a short length of anchor chain fitted near the anchor where required by the vessel arrangement and classification rules. The drum stores the wire rope, while the electric-driven hydraulic power unit supplies the hydraulic motor for controlled heaving and paying out.
This configuration is different from a conventional chain-cable windlass with a cable lifter. It can reduce the space and weight associated with storing a full length of anchor chain, but it does not automatically remove all chain-stowage or anchor-pocket requirements. The anchor, wire rope, short chain, fairlead / stem contact geometry, drum capacity, brake holding basis, deck foundation, hydraulic power unit, controls, and class approval must be checked as one anchoring system before manufacture.
Quick Specifications
• Anchor wire rope: 36 mm reference size → rope construction, grade, minimum breaking load, termination, and corrosion protection must be confirmed with the anchor arrangement.
• Reference working load: 55.1 kN → catalogue value for the 36 mm size; exact drum-layer basis and duty definition should be confirmed on the approved calculation.
• Reference holding / supporting load: 329 kN → catalogue value; confirm whether this is the required brake holding load and the layer at which it applies.
• Anchor recovery speed: ≥9 m/min → suitable for normal anchor retrieval duty; final speed is checked together with anchor mass, depth, rope length, and available hydraulic power.
• Warping / mooring function: 40 kN at ≥12 m/min as catalogue reference → applies when the warping end / mooring function is included in the offered configuration.
• Drive system: Electric motor driven HPU + hydraulic motor → provides controllable low-speed torque and flexible equipment arrangement.
• Control: Local control with remote control available according to project requirement → emergency stop, monitoring, and interlocks are confirmed during design.
• Power supply reference: AC 380 V / 50 Hz / 3Ph, AC 415 V / 50 Hz / 3Ph, or AC 440 V / 60 Hz / 3Ph → final motor, starter, protection, and HPU selection follow the vessel electrical system.

Wire Rope & Short-Chain Anchor Arrangement
Wire-rope anchoring should be treated as a complete vessel anchoring arrangement rather than as a winch-only substitution. Current IACS UR A1 Rev.8 permits wire rope in place of chain cable only under defined conditions and subject to the applicable classification society rules.
• For ships less than 90 m in length, IACS UR A1 includes use cases where the anchor is for emergency purposes rather than normal temporary anchoring, or where the anchoring equipment is used for positioning with at least four anchoring points.
• For ships less than 40 m in length using wire rope in place of chain cable, the rule includes specific requirements for wire-rope length and strength, an increase in anchor weight, a short chain length between wire rope and anchor, suitable contact radii, and maintenance / inspection guidance.
• The short anchor chain, anchor shackle, wire-rope termination, thimble / socket, and connecting link must be selected as one load path; the 36 mm wire-rope diameter must not be treated as the short-chain diameter.
• All wire-rope contact surfaces, including fairleads, rollers, stem or lead surfaces, need geometry suitable for the rope diameter and bending requirement. Final radii and rope lead should be confirmed by the approved vessel arrangement.
• A conventional full-length chain locker may not be required when the main anchor rode is stored on the winch drum, but the short chain, anchor, drainage, rope lead, and stowage arrangement still require engineering confirmation.
Hydraulic Drive, Brake & Control
• Electric-hydraulic drive separates the vessel electrical supply from the drum drive through an HPU, allowing the hydraulic motor to provide controllable speed and torque during anchor recovery and paying out.
• The HPU should be sized from the required working pull, speed, hydraulic motor displacement / torque, system pressure, flow, duty cycle, and ambient condition. The exact pressure and flow for the 36 mm model were not provided and should not be copied from another size drawing.
• Brake capacity must be confirmed against the required static holding load and the relevant drum layer. The catalogue term “supporting load” is treated as a holding-load reference only until the brake calculation and class requirement are confirmed.
• Local controls should give the operator clear heave / pay-out control and emergency stopping. Remote control, load indication, rope-length / speed monitoring, pressure indication, and alarms can be arranged when specified.
• Hydraulic piping, relief-valve settings, oil cleanliness, cooler / heater requirement, reservoir arrangement, and hose or pipe routing should be finalized with the vessel installation environment.
Selection & System Integration Guide
Step 1: Confirm vessel type, ship length, anchoring duty, normal / emergency / positioning use, anchor location, water depth, flag, and classification society.
Step 2: Confirm anchor type and mass, 36 mm wire-rope construction and MBL, required rope length, end termination, short-chain diameter / grade / length, shackles, swivels, and anchor connection drawing.
Step 3: Confirm required working pull, static holding load, recovery speed, paying-out control, design drum layer, anchoring depth, and whether the catalogue 55.1 kN / 329 kN values satisfy the approved system calculation.
Step 4: Confirm drum core diameter, flange diameter, usable width, 36 mm wire-rope capacity, fleet angle, lead direction, fairlead / roller arrangement, minimum bending radius, and rope spooling method.
Step 5: Confirm warping / mooring requirement, including 40 kN reference pull, warping-end size, mooring line type, direction of lead, and whether mooring operation is independent of anchor operation.
Step 6: Confirm HPU location, electric supply, hydraulic pressure / flow, motor duty, local / remote control, emergency stop, monitoring, environmental protection, heating / cooling, and noise requirements.
Step 7: Provide deck foundation / reinforcement drawing, available installation space, maintenance access, coating system, certificate scope, quantity, destination, and required delivery time.
Structure & Functional Components
Single wire-rope drum | Drum shaft and bearings | Hydraulic motor | Reduction / transmission arrangement to be confirmed | Brake mechanism | Warping end when specified | Steel wire rope anchoring system | Short anchor chain near anchor | Base frame | Electric-hydraulic power unit | Local / remote control system
Engineering & Installation Advantages
• Single-drum construction gives a direct storage and hauling path for the anchor wire rope and can simplify deck machinery layout where a class-approved wire-rope anchoring system is used.
• Hydraulic drive provides controllable low-speed torque and allows the HPU to be positioned to suit deck layout, maintenance access, noise, and piping restrictions.
• Using wire rope as the primary anchor rode can reduce the volume associated with a full chain cable, but the benefit depends on the complete anchor, short-chain, drum, rope lead, and stowage arrangement.
• A warping end can provide an additional line-handling function when included, allowing one deck machine to support anchoring and limited mooring / warping duties without describing it as a full automatic mooring winch.
• Foundation loads from working pull, brake holding load, rope lead angle, and dynamic operation must be transferred into the deck structure. Foundation bolts / welding, local deck reinforcement, and alignment are finalized from the approved GA and load calculation.
• The product photos show a fabricated steel frame, drum, brake arrangement, warping head, and hydraulic drive components; final component type, gearbox arrangement, brake actuation, and guarding must follow the actual 36 mm production drawing.

FAQ
Q1: Does this wire-rope anchor winch completely eliminate the need for a chain locker?
A1: Not automatically. The main steel wire rope is stored on the drum, so a conventional full-length chain locker may be avoided in an approved arrangement. However, the anchor still uses a short chain length where required, and the chain / anchor stowage, drainage, rope lead, fairlead surfaces, and class approval must be engineered for the vessel.
Q2: Does “36mm” mean the anchor chain diameter?
A2: On this page, 36 mm is treated as the anchor steel wire-rope diameter because the product is a single-drum wire-rope anchor winch. The short anchor-chain diameter and grade are separate design items and must be selected from the required strength and approved anchoring arrangement.
Q3: What information is required before a firm quotation?
A3: Provide the vessel type and length, class society, anchor mass, anchoring duty, water depth, 36 mm wire-rope specification and length, short-chain specification, required working and holding loads, drum capacity, warping requirement, HPU and electrical supply, control philosophy, foundation / GA drawing, quantity, destination, and delivery date.
