Product Overview
The shipside hydraulic watertight pilot door is a flush-closing shell opening used to provide a controlled passage between the pilot boarding position and the vessel interior. The assembly is normally integrated into the side shell within the approved pilot transfer arrangement and may be supplied as port and starboard units where the vessel design requires boarding access on both sides.
The supplied PWTD arrangement combines a bi-fold door body, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic power unit, locking cleats, resilient sealing gasket, and a pilot ladder stowage reel. In the closed position, the external surface is arranged flush with the surrounding shell plating. During boarding, the door opens inboard, folds to reduce its stowed envelope, and is mechanically secured clear of the access route. Final design must coordinate shell reinforcement, door loads, sealing pressure, hydraulic controls, pilot ladder securing points, safe handholds, alarms, emergency operation, and class approval.

Step 1: Confirm the door location, port or starboard orientation, freeboard-deck relationship, sill height, access deck level, design draughts, trim conditions, and pilot boat approach area.
Step 2: Select the clear opening from PWTD1 to PWTD5 and verify compliance with the applicable pilot transfer rules. For projects subject to IMO resolution MSC.576(110), the side opening requires at least 2,200 mm clear height and 915 mm clear width.
