0.2-0.8T Movable Garbage Davit for Bulk Carrier Cargo Holds

Product Overview

The 0.2-0.8T movable cargo hold garbage and residue davit is a compact shipboard lifting appliance developed mainly for bulk carrier cargo-hold cleaning work. It is used to hoist cargo residues, sweepings, collected garbage, contaminated cleaning material, and other hold-cleaning waste from the bottom of the cargo hold to the hatch or deck handling level after unloading. Its transferable arrangement allows one davit to serve selected cargo-hold working positions instead of installing a permanent lifting appliance at every hatch.

The davit combines a slewing post, jib, head sheave, wire rope, hook or lifting attachment, and a manual, electric, or pneumatic hoisting unit. In normal service, the collected hold residue or garbage is placed in a suitable bag, bucket, basket, skip, or other approved container, connected to the lifting gear, and hoisted vertically from the cargo hold. “Movable” or “transferable” refers to relocation of the unloaded davit between prepared positions; it does not mean the appliance may be moved while carrying a suspended load. Before lifting, the support frame or base must be correctly deployed and secured, and operation must remain within the approved SWL, working radius, slewing sector, installation condition, and vessel operating procedure.

Quick Specifications

• Safe Working Load: 0.2 / 0.3 / 0.5 / 0.8 t → select according to the maximum weight of the residue / garbage container plus its contents and lifting accessories.

• Reference Working Radius: 2–3 m → affects jib bending moment, overturning moment, support reaction, slewing clearance, and the required deck / hatch-coaming structure.

• Reference Davit Height: 2.8 m → confirms the generic product family only; use the project GA drawing for final installation height and hook geometry.

• Hoisting Height / Rope Travel: 10–20 m → selected to reach the cargo-hold bottom and raise the loaded cleaning container to hatch or deck handling level; confirm actual hook travel and drum rope capacity.

• Slewing Range: 0–360° stated → actual usable sector depends on mechanical stops, nearby structure, hatch-cover clearance, and electric cable or pneumatic hose routing.

• Drive Options: Manual handle / electric / pneumatic → each version requires its own winch, brake, controls, and utility arrangement.

• Working Temperature: -40°C to +50°C stated → motor, brake, rope, lubricant, electrical, and pneumatic components must be suitable for the confirmed project temperature.

• Surface Treatment: Sa 2½ abrasive blast-cleaning + three-layer epoxy coating stated → final coating system, DFT, color, and repair procedure should follow the vessel coating specification.

Main Technical Parameters

Reference performance data from the supplied product information. The power rating applies to powered configurations and should not be interpreted as a manual-operation requirement. Selection & Inquiry Guide

Step 1: Confirm the cargo-hold cleaning duty → cargo residue, sweepings, garbage, contaminated cleaning material, sludge-containing bags, or other hold-cleaning waste; confirm the intended bag / bucket / basket / skip and state clearly that personnel lifting is not required.

Step 2: Confirm SWL, maximum working radius, required hook height, lifting depth, and whether the appliance is intended for use only in port / sheltered water or under another defined vessel operating condition.

Step 2A: Confirm what is being lifted and how it will be contained: residue bag, bucket, basket, skip, drum, or other cleaning container. Provide the maximum gross lifted weight including the container and lifting accessories.

Step 3: Confirm the transfer and support arrangement → where the davit is moved, how it is handled when stowed, how the support frame is deployed, and how the operating position is locked / secured before lifting.

Step 4: Select the drive type → manual, electric, or pneumatic. For electric supply, provide voltage / frequency / phase; for pneumatic supply, provide available pressure and flow.

Step 5: Confirm slewing sector, stowage position, brake arrangement, wire-rope and hook / loose gear scope, controls, limit functions, and required deck / hatch-coaming reinforcement.

Step 6: Confirm vessel type, flag Administration, classification society, installation date, certificate / load-test requirement, quantity, destination, required delivery time, and provide the vessel drawing or existing equipment photos.

Structure

Transfer / support frame | Slewing post | Jib arm | Head sheave | Hoisting wire rope | Hook / loose gear | Manual, electric, or pneumatic winch | Brake and operating mechanism | Slewing / locking arrangement | Mechanical stops or securing points as specified

Transfer, Lifting & Engineering Features

• Transferable layout allows one davit to serve selected bulk carrier cargo-hold cleaning positions, reducing the need to install a dedicated lifting appliance at every hatch while keeping the equipment available for residue and garbage removal after cargo discharge.

• For cargo-hold cleaning, residue should be contained in a suitable bag, bucket, basket, skip, or other approved container before lifting. Loose bulk residue should not be suspended directly from the hook without a defined containment method.

• Transfer is an unloaded handling operation. Before lifting starts, the support arrangement must be correctly deployed, all required locking or fixing points must be engaged, and the operating area must be clear.

• Working radius is a structural parameter, not only a reach value. Increasing radius increases overturning moment, jib stress, and support reactions; therefore a customized radius requires matching structural calculations and foundation details.

• Manual drive can be suitable for low-frequency service where lifting depth and hand effort are acceptable. Electric or pneumatic drive is more appropriate when cycle frequency, lift depth, or operational efficiency requires powered hoisting.

• The lifting system should be selected as one complete load path: winch, load-holding brake, wire rope, drum capacity, sheave groove, rope termination, hook / loose gear, and structural support all require compatible ratings.

• A nominal 360° slewing capability does not automatically mean unrestricted 360° operation onboard. Hatch covers, coamings, rails, pipes, ventilation trunks, lighting, nearby structure, power cable, and air hose routing must be checked.

• The existing source photos mainly represent a manual transferable configuration. Electric and pneumatic versions should use their own confirmed photos and drawings rather than presenting the manual unit as structurally identical.

Custom Attributes

SWL: 0.2 / 0.3 / 0.5 / 0.8 t → select according to actual lifted load, lifting accessory weight, working radius, operating condition, and approved design basis.

Working Radius: 2–3 m reference → customized radius changes structural loads and requires project-specific confirmation.

Hoisting Height: 10–20 m reference → confirm actual hook travel and drum rope capacity instead of assuming rope length equals usable lift.

Drive Type: Manual / electric / pneumatic → operating method, brake, controls, and utility requirements differ by configuration.

Slewing: 0–360° stated → final working sector follows onboard clearance, mechanical stops, and utility routing.

Mounting Type: Movable / transferable → relocation is performed without suspended load; lifting requires the davit to be secured in its working position.

Structural Material: Carbon steel, exact grade to be confirmed → material grade, plate / section thickness, welding, and traceability follow the approved design.

Surface Treatment: Sa 2½ + three-layer epoxy coating stated → exact coating system and DFT are project-specific and should be confirmed before quotation.

Working Temperature: -40°C to +50°C stated → all selected components must be verified for the required temperature range.

Certificate Requirement: According to flag / class / project scope → certification is not automatically included and depends on design review, installation status, testing, and inspection requirements.

How It Works

Unloaded davit is transferred to the designated working position → Support / base is deployed and secured → Jib and hoisting system are prepared → Load is connected with approved loose gear → Winch raises the load within SWL and radius limits → Davit slews only within the permitted sector for positioning → Load is lowered to a safe landing point → Hook is unloaded before the davit is stowed or transferred

Applications

Bulk carrier cargo-hold garbage removal | Residual cargo and sweepings lifting after unloading | Cargo-hold cleaning waste handling | Bag / bucket / basket lifting from hold bottom to hatch level | Transferable cleaning davit service between cargo holds | Shipboard hold-cleaning operations subject to approved SWL and installation limits

Certifications, Testing & Compliance

SOLAS Regulation II-1/3-13 entered into force on 1 January 2026 and is supported by IMO MSC.1/Circ.1663 for onboard lifting appliances. Because this product range is below 1,000 kg SWL, the extent to which specific SOLAS certification and testing provisions apply can depend on the vessel’s Flag Administration. The applicable flag, class, installation date, and final onboard arrangement should therefore be confirmed before certificate wording is finalized.

Where the MSC.1/Circ.1663 load-test table applies to a lifting appliance used in port or sheltered waters, the minimum test load for SWL up to 20 t is 1.25 × SWL. For open-sea operation, test loads must account for applicable dynamic loads to the satisfaction of the Administration or a recognized classification society. These are test-load requirements and must not be confused with the operating SWL.

Certification: CCS, NK, BV, ABS, DNV, LR, KR, IRS, RS, RINA, CRS, Makers Test Certificate.

Certificates, load testing, thorough examination, loose-gear documentation, material traceability, and class witnessing can be arranged according to the approved project scope and are not assumed to be included by default.

FAQ

Q1: What does “movable” or “transferable” mean for this garbage davit?

A1: It means the unloaded davit can be relocated between suitable working positions. It must not be moved while carrying a suspended load. Before lifting, the support frame, locking points, working radius, and surrounding clearance must be checked and secured in accordance with the approved operating arrangement.

Q2: Is manual operation suitable for every 0.2–0.8 t model?

A2: Not automatically. Manual suitability depends on lifting depth, load, cycle frequency, gearing, required hand effort, brake arrangement, and expected operating time. Electric or pneumatic drive may be preferable for deeper or more frequent lifts. The listed kW ratings apply to powered versions only.

Q3: Does a 0.2–0.8 t davit automatically require a class certificate under the 2026 SOLAS lifting-appliance rules?

A3: No single answer applies to every vessel. SOLAS II-1/3-13 is in force from 1 January 2026, but for appliances below 1,000 kg SWL the Flag Administration may determine how certain provisions apply. Confirm the flag, class, installation date, operating condition, and certificate requirement before quotation.
