Q1: Are the 1,000 kN and 2,000 kN values the SWL of the storage drum?
A1: No. These values are the working-strength categories for the strength-rated components of the complete emergency towing arrangement. The storage drum mainly stores and controls payout of the towing pennant. Its structural and foundation loads must be confirmed by the approved design.
Q2: How is the required towing pennant length determined?
A2: IMO Resolution MSC.35(63) states that the towing pennant should be at least twice the lightest seagoing ballast freeboard at the fairlead plus 50 m. The final length and drum capacity should be confirmed from the vessel-specific arrangement.
Q3: What information is required before quotation?
A3: Provide vessel DWT, ETA configuration, approved GA or component list, pennant diameter and length, payout direction, drum capacity, operating and damping requirements, foundation drawing, coating system, class requirement, quantity, destination, and delivery time.
