Product Overview

The JIS F 2030 Type A single point mooring pipe is a cast steel bulwark fitting for passing chains or large-diameter ropes during vessel single point mooring. Also known as a single point mooring chock, it has an oblong passage with curved contact surfaces and is intended for bulwark inclinations up to and including 20°.

Type A is selected for vertical or moderately inclined bulwarks within this limit; Type B has an inclined oblong form for bulwark inclinations greater than 20°. The angle describes the bulwark, not the mooring line lead. Bow installations follow the vessel arrangement. The fitting guides the chain or rope; it does not replace a chain stopper.

Step 1: Confirm Type A suitability from the bulwark section and inclination ≤20°; provide orientation, opening measurements and available space.

Step 2: Specify the chain or rope, connecting hardware, required design loads and horizontal/vertical lead directions.

Step 3: For replacement, compare the complete Type A profile, L1/L2, H1/H2, depth B and connection dimension C with the existing fitting.

Step 4: Confirm material, coating, inspection and certificate scope; send the vessel drawing, quantity, destination and required schedule.

Mooring, Casting and Installation Advantages

The Type A form suits bulwarks within the ≤20° range. Its own section profiles and interface dimensions support replacement checks without borrowing Type B geometry.

Smooth contact surfaces limit sharp-edge contact. Visual inspection addresses harmful casting cavities, flash and adhering sand; additional NDT follows the agreed inspection plan.

Dimension C may be increased for installation under the standard’s note. Record any change on the drawing and review its effect on fit and mass.

The welded connection and supporting hull carry the contact reactions. Weld details and reinforcement must suit the actual material, section thickness and load directions.

FAQ

Q1: Can Type A be used on a bulwark inclined at exactly 20°?

A1: Yes. The standard assigns inclinations up to and including 20° to Type A. Greater inclinations correspond to Type B; the vessel drawing still governs the final arrangement.

Q2: Can a Type B pipe of the same nominal size replace Type A?

A2: Not on nominal size alone. JIS F 2030 Type B has a different inclined form and section dimensions. Compare the full profiles, hull interface and operating line route before approving a substitution.

Q3: Does the reference chain diameter establish the fitting’s capacity?

A3: No. Diameter is a dimensional reference. Required loads and directions must be assessed for the casting, welds and hull support together; chain retention is provided by a separately selected securing device.
