Marine Trawl Chain for Fishing Gear | G80 Short, Mid & Long Link Chain
Product Overview
Marine trawl chain is a flash-butt-welded round-link steel chain supplied for fishing gear assemblies such as trawl ground gear, net weighting, tuna net sinker lines, bridles, and related connecting sections, subject to the actual fishing system design. The product range includes short-link, mid-link, and long-link configurations. Link geometry affects chain mass per metre, articulation, connector clearance, and the way the chain fits into a net or rigging arrangement, so selection should be based on the approved gear drawing rather than chain diameter alone.
The supplied range covers 7–28 mm chain diameter, 0.83–14.3 kg/m unit weight, and minimum breaking loads from 53 to 860 kN. G80, a minimum safety factor of 4, and the breaking-load values are manufacturer-supplied product designations. They do not automatically establish a certified lifting-chain working load limit, anchor-chain grade, or class-approved mooring capacity. The application load case, dynamic effects, wear allowance, connection details, material grade, finish, and test scope should be confirmed for each order.

Selection & Inquiry Guide
Step 1: Confirm the actual function and installation position: trawl ground gear, chain dangler, net weighting, tuna net sinker line, bridle, connecting section, or another fishing gear application.
Step 2: Select short, mid, or long link together with nominal diameter, required chain mass per metre, movement requirement, connector clearance, and the approved net or rigging drawing.
Step 3: Confirm the design load basis: in-service tension, towing or retrieval loads, shock and dynamic effects, seabed contact, minimum breaking load requirement, design factor, and expected wear.
Step 4: Confirm material grade, heat-treatment requirement, flash-butt-weld quality controls, surface finish, corrosion protection, seawater exposure, and any operating-temperature requirement.
Step 5: Confirm total length or number of chain lengths, end links, joining links, shackles or fittings, marking, dimensional inspection, test reports, and class witnessing if required.
Step 6: Provide quantity or total metreage, fishing method, vessel type, destination, required delivery date, packing method, and reference drawing or existing-chain photos.
Structure
Round steel bar | Formed short / mid / long links | Flash-butt-welded link joint | Heat-treated strength grade where specified | Chain lengths or assemblies | End links and fittings to be confirmed | Self colour or specified surface finish

Material & Surface Treatment
The supplied specification lists alloy steel and carbon steel. Because G80 performance depends on the actual material grade, welding procedure, heat treatment, and test results, the final steel designation should be confirmed rather than described only as generic carbon steel.
Standard supply may be self colour or another finish agreed with the customer. Painted, galvanized, or other corrosion-protection systems should be confirmed with the material and heat-treatment route. For high-strength alloy steel, coating preparation and hydrogen-embrittlement controls may require special attention. Stainless steel should be treated as a separate material option with its own mechanical-property and load table unless verified by test.
Custom Attributes
How It Works
Fishing gear is deployed → Chain provides the specified mass, connection, or rigging function → Link geometry allows movement through the gear cycle → Tension and contact loads pass through the round links and welded joints → Gear is retrieved, cleaned, and inspected for wear, deformation, corrosion, and weld damage
Applications
Bottom trawl ground gear | Trawl net weighting and chain danglers | Tuna purse-seine sinker lines | Fishing net bridles | Net and gear connecting sections | Replacement chain for approved fishing assemblies | Marine fishing and selected aquaculture net systems subject to design confirmation
Certifications & Documentation
Maker test certificates, material certificates, dimensional inspection reports, breaking-load test reports, and third-party witness documents can be arranged according to the order scope. Classification society certification is subject to the society’s applicable rules, product scope, approved test plan, and inspection acceptance; it is not assumed as standard supply.
Certification: CCS, NK, BV, ABS, DNV, LR, KR, IRS, RS, RINA, CRS, Makers Test Certificate.

FAQ
Q1: What is the practical difference between short-, mid-, and long-link trawl chain?
A1: Short links provide compact geometry and generally higher weight per metre at comparable diameter. Mid links provide an intermediate arrangement. Long links provide more open geometry, larger connection clearance, and generally lower weight per metre at comparable diameter. The correct choice depends on the net drawing, required mass distribution, movement, connectors, and load case.
Q2: Can the supplied G80 trawl chain be used for lifting?
A2: Not on the basis of this table alone. The supplied G80 designation, safety factor, and minimum breaking loads are fishing-chain product data and do not automatically demonstrate compliance with lifting-chain standards. Lifting or overhead handling requires a separately specified and certified lifting chain with a declared WLL, proof test, marking, and documentation.
Q3: What information is required for an accurate quotation?
A3: Please provide fishing method and chain function, short/mid/long link type, nominal size, total length or quantity, required minimum breaking load, material and finish, end links or fittings, test and certificate scope, packing requirement, delivery destination, required delivery time, and an existing drawing or chain sample details if available.
