Australian Standard Link Chain | Short, Medium & Long Welded Chain for Marine and General Use
Product Overview
This Australian-market welded link chain range is supplied in short-link, medium-link, and long-link configurations for marine utility, mooring, drag, restraint, barrier, agricultural, and general industrial applications. Selection is based on nominal chain size, reference working load, link dimensions, required length, surface finish, connected fittings, and the actual duty of the chain.
The supplied table represents general welded open-link chain and should not automatically be described as class-approved ship anchor chain, offshore mooring chain, or lifting chain. Grade L short-link chain, Grade 70 transport chain, stainless steel chain, and class-certified marine anchor chain are separate product families with different material, testing, marking, and certification requirements. This product is supplied through qualified long-term chain manufacturing partners, with specification matching and inspection scope confirmed for each order.

Selection & Inquiry Guide
Step 1: State the actual application: marine utility anchoring, mooring, drag chain, barrier chain, agricultural use, general restraint, lifting, or transport load restraint. The duty determines the required chain grade and compliance route.
Step 2: Select short, medium, or long link; nominal size; required reference working load; and S / R / F dimensions. Provide the mating shackle, hook, connector, sprocket, or anchor fitting dimensions where applicable.
Step 3: Confirm the material and grade. Carbon-steel general-purpose chain is the baseline for the supplied table; Grade L, Grade 70, stainless steel, alloy steel, and class-approved anchor chain require separate technical data.
Step 4: Confirm finish and environment: black / self-colour, hot-dip galvanized, polished stainless steel, or another specified coating. State seawater exposure, splash-zone exposure, chemical exposure, and storage conditions.
Step 5: Confirm supplied length, continuous length or cut lengths, end-link requirement, joining links, shackles or hooks, identification marking, packing method, and whether chain is supplied in coils, drums, bags, pails, or bundles.
Step 6: Provide quantity, required standard and grade, test and certificate scope, third-party or class requirement, delivery destination, required delivery time, and a drawing or sample photo if matching an existing chain.
Structure
Round-steel welded links | Short / medium / long pitch geometry | Link weld zone | Black or hot-dip galvanized finish | Optional end links and connecting fittings | Length marking and packing according to order
Manufacturing, Finish & Inspection Considerations
Custom Attributes
How It Works
Force enters through a compatible anchor, shackle, hook, or connection point → Each welded link transfers tensile force to the next link → Link pitch and inside dimensions control articulation and fitting clearance → Surface finish reduces environmental attack → Periodic inspection identifies wear, corrosion, elongation, distortion, and weld damage
Applications
Marine utility anchoring | General mooring and berth-side utility use | Drag chains | Barrier and safety chains | Pump and suspension applications where specified | Agricultural use | Industrial restraint | General fabrication and maintenance | Replacement chain matching
Certifications & Supply Scope
Mill certificates, maker inspection reports, proof-test records, and third-party inspection can be arranged according to the selected chain type, grade, factory capability, and order requirement. Class society certification is not standard for this general open-link chain and must be confirmed before quotation when the chain is intended for a class-controlled marine application.
Certification options: CCS, NK, BV, ABS, DNV, LR, KR, IRS, RS, RINA, CRS, Makers Test Certificate, and Mill Certificate — available only when required by the project, supported by the selected factory, and accepted by the relevant inspection or class procedure.

FAQ
Q1: Is this the same as class-approved ship anchor chain?
A1: No. The supplied table describes welded open-link chain in short, medium, and long link patterns. A ship anchor-chain order normally requires a separately confirmed chain type, material grade, nominal diameter, proof and breaking loads, end links, joining shackles, marking, and class inspection. The term “anchor chain” should only be used after the intended vessel and approval requirement are confirmed.
Q2: Can the listed chain be used for overhead lifting or transport restraint?
A2: Not by default. Lifting chain must be supplied in the correct lifting grade with applicable marking, proof testing, and certification. Grade 70 transport chain is a separate product complying with its lashing standard and is not a lifting chain. General medium-link and long-link chain should not be promoted for overhead lifting unless a specific certified product specification supports that use.
Q3: What information is required for an accurate quotation?
A3: Confirm application, link type, nominal size, required load basis, material and grade, finish, total length and cut lengths, end fittings, applicable standard, test and certificate scope, marking, quantity, packing, destination, and delivery date. A drawing or sample is recommended for replacement chain.
