Floating pneumatic rubber fenders, commonly known as Yokohama fenders, are constructed from synthetic-cord-reinforced rubber sheets with compressed air inside. This design enables them to float on water and serve as effective shock absorbers between ships (ship-to-ship) or between ships and berthing structures during docking operations.
Note: Floating pneumatic rubber fenders are sometimes referred to as "Yokohama Fenders" or "Yokohama type fenders" - ISO 17357:2002 Ships and marine technology -- High-pressure floating pneumatic rubber fenders.
Key Features
Lightweight design for easy handling and installation with guy-rope or guy-chain
Maintains energy absorption level under inclined compression up to 15 degrees
Provides low and even hull pressure distribution
Constructed with multiple synthetic-cord layers and abrasion-resistant rubber
Consistent performance under rough conditions and cyclic loads
Minimal maintenance requirements and damage risk
Available in diameters from 500 mm to 4,500 mm and lengths from 500 mm to 9,000 mm
Construction Components
Outer Rubber: Protects cord layers and inner rubber from abrasion and external forces with excellent tensile and tear resistance.
Tire Cord Layers: Reinforcement layer designed to maintain internal air pressure integrity.
Inner Rubber: Seals the pressurized air within the fender structure.
Doowin-Marine pneumatic rubber fenders are manufactured and tested to comply with ISO 17357. Our Yokohama-type pneumatic fenders are produced using Korean manufacturing technology.
ISO 17357 Compliance: All pneumatic fenders are manufactured and tested to comply with ISO 15375 latest edition.
Soft Reaction Force: The reaction force doesn't increase sharply, even under excess load conditions, protecting ships and mooring facilities.
15° Inclined Berthing: Energy absorption doesn't decrease at inclined compression up to 15 degrees.
Against Shearing Force: Reinforced with strong tire-cord to cope with combined shearing forces.
Lower Mooring Forces: Safely protects ships and mooring facilities even in rough weather conditions.
Adaptable to Tide: Floats freely to accommodate tidal range and ship's vertical movement.
Low Cost Installation: Can be moored simply with guy rope or chain and easily relocated.
Low Maintenance Cost: Minimal air leakage requires only annual pressure checks.
Ship Cost Minimization: Packed and shipped in containers or on pallets in vacuumed, folded state.
