ThinkBond 8 Premium Electrical Insulator Adhesive for Polymer & Metal Bonding
ThinkBond 8 is a specialized insulator adhesive designed for bonding critical electrical components like polymeric insulators. This one-coat, heat-reactive primer creates superior bonds between peroxide-cured elastomers (VMQ, FKM) and substrates like steel, aluminum, galvanized metal, and resin composites during vulcanization. Its defining characteristic is an extremely low electrical conductivity, making it the essential insulator adhesive for applications where preventing current leakage is paramount. ThinkBond® 8 is also a heavy metal-free, environmentally conscious solution.

A: It is primarily formulated for bonding peroxide-cured silicone rubber (VMQ) and fluorocarbon rubber (FKM), the most common elastomers used in polymeric insulators.
A: It can be applied via dipping, brushing, or spraying. Dilution with MEK or MIBK is required: typically 1:1 for dip/brush, 1:2 for spray. Surface preparation (cleaning & sandblasting >15μm Ra) is crucial.
A: Drying at room temperature takes 20-30 minutes. Oven drying below 82°C can accelerate this. Ensure the film is completely dry before vulcanization.
A: While heavy-metal-free, it contains volatile solvents (MEK/MIBK). Use with adequate ventilation, wear protective gloves and a mask. Avoid skin contact and ingestion (fatal if swallowed). Always consult the MSDS before use.
